N2 - Forensic Microbiology takes place among main disciplines dealing with the examination, analyses, and interpretation of the samples obtained from a human corpse and the scene of death. Thanks to the development of microbial biotechnology the spectrum of forensic microbiological techniques is widening, related methods are also developing and become more common. Nowadays, forensic microbiological techniques are utilized as assistive techniques in many subjects including identification of the deceased, estimation of postmortem interval and determination of cause, mechanism and manner of death. Developments in microbial biotechnology including amplicon metagenomics, next generation sequencing and mass-spectrometry-based microbiome studies have accelerated studies defining new methodologies in forensic sciences. On the other hand, identification of non-culturable microbial species has become easier, which is a promising breakthrough for the field of Forensic Microbiology, recently.
