Özet
Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the parental anxiety and desire in day case surgery unit. Material and Method: Following ethics committee approval, a questionnaire was applied to the parents of 200 children who were undergoing surgery in day case surgery unit. The questionnaire was given to parents after their children entered the operation room. They had been informed that their answers wouldn't effect the care given to the children. Results: The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) showed that the mothers' and fathers' anxiety level was increased.. When the family income and education level increased, state anxiety level did not change but trait anxiety level decreased. The STAI scores showed that the mothers had a higher level of anxiety compared to the fathers. Parents were less anxious if their child had undergone surgery in the past. This finding was significant only for mothers. Conclusion: We conclude that parents of children undergoing surgery desire perioperative information.
