Özet
Sexual and gender identities display a wide diversity in human beings. Considering some elements of this diversity more ‘healthy’, ‘normal’, ‘natural’, ‘superior’ than others is based on social structures rather than the features of the relevant identity group. People in specific sexual and gender minority groups; lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex (LGBTI+) are subjected to stigmatization and discrimination based on those social structures. Stigmatization and discrimination were shown to be related to the health inequity in this groups. Physicians’ discourses, attitudes, and behavior against discrimination in structural, interpersonal and personal grounds have sinificant impact on these inequities. Medical education should be revised in order to built competency in physicians for interventions against discrimination. Similarly provision of healthcare should be reorganized to improve and protest the health of LGBTİ+. These interventions represent essential elements of the physicians’ professional identity and should be considered as important domains for public health.
