Özet
This chapter explores the systemic barriers, historical exclusion and ongoing challenges women face in STEM fields and higher education. It examines how academic and professional gatekeeping reinforced male dominance, both through overt exclusion and subtle biases that persist today. By tracing the roots of gender inequality in STEM, it highlights how stereotypes, lack of mentorship and structural disadvantages continue to limit women's participation. Beyond identifying these challenges, the chapter emphasizes the transformative potential of inclusivity. There is no doubt that a gender-diverse STEM workforce fosters economic growth, innovation and societal progress. Addressing systemic inequities in education and professional opportunities can bridge existing gaps, ensuring broader representation in STEM careers. Finally, the chapter discusses strategies to dismantle these barriers, including mentorship programs, policy reforms and institutional support systems as, by fostering an inclusive STEM environment, society can unlock the potential of women's contributions to STEM fields.
