Abstract
We present a case of 14-year-old boy who had recurrent bacterial meningitis due to a skull base fracture resulting from previous head trauma. He had suffered from three episodes of recurrent bacterial meningitis for the last eight years. The patient did not have any findings of cerebrospinal fluid leakage. Computed tomography images of the paranasal sinuses showed abnormal with a bony defect at the ethmoid roof of the right paranasal sinuses. Radionuclide cisternography revealed a cerebrospinal fluid leakage in this region. We describe in this case of recurrent bacterial meningitis with fracture of skull base and cerebrospinal fluid leakage. He underwent trans nasal endoskopic surgery. There was no any cerebrospinal fluid leak after the operation. The patient was uneventful at the postoperative 12 month follow up. In conclusion, traumatic skull base fracture should be considered in patients with recurrent bacterial meningitis who had previous head trauma.
