Abstract

In early strawberry glowing, beside growing in the greenhouse, the cultivars and planting systems are especially important. In this research, Tufts, Vista, Cruz, Aliso and Douglas strawberry cultivars widely grown in Antalya region, were used, and summer (August) and autumn (September) planting systems were tested. Frigo, polyethylene (PE)-potted frigo, young seedling and PE-potted young seedlings were used as planting materials. While frigo and PE-potted frigo seedlings were used in the summer planting, PE-potted and young seedlings were used in the autumn planting. All cultivars were evaluated for earliness, yield per plant, fruit size and soluble solids. Plantings with PE-potted frigo and PE-potted young seedlings gave the earliest yields. Planting frigo, PE-potted frigo and PE-potted young seedlings increased the total yield approximately 2 to 3 times in comparison with young seedlings. Frigo, PE-potted frigo and PE-potted young seedlings gave the highest quality for all cultivars. For fruit quality,Vista, Douglas and Tufts cultivars were better than Aliso and Cruz.
