Abstract
In this article, the life of Osman Ağa of Temesvár, known for his memories of captivity, was studied. Born and grown up on the Habsburg frontiers of Ottoman Empire, Osman Ağa was captured in 1688 and escaped from a long lasting captivity in 1699. He was appointed as council dragoman in Temesvár after the treaty of Karlowitz and played some important roles in the frontier diplomacy. After the loss of Temesvár he settled in Istanbul where he wrote many books in addition to teaching Turkish to young Habsburg dragoman candidates. In this study, his books were shortly reviewed. Furthermore a less known period of his life was brought to light based on the Austrian archives.
