Abstract

Metaverse is a “buzz” term that is poorly defined, much like the term “Internet” was in the 1990s. This chapter will explain the current definition of the Metaverse by explaining the several components that have to exist for it to become viable. Predicted by numerous futurists and technologists alike, the Metaverse will be much more impactful if not as impactful as the Internet for the evolution of human culture and human society. As it is poised to alter the way we interact with many aspects of society, it is also inevitable that it will also have a monumental impact on sports training and sports education. We will show how the state-of-the-art technologies are already changing the way that athletes train and predict a scenario where athletes can use the Metaverse to gain access to better sports education, and thus prevent sports injuries related to overstrain, bad technique, or high volume or impact training. We will also discuss how the Metaverse can alter how we view medical and surgical education and training.
