Abstract
This paper reviews the publications (articles, notes, book reviews, etc.) of Turkish social scientists as reported in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) by checking the authors ' affiliation addresses to see if they included llie word "Turkey". Altogether, a total of 8S7 publications were identified between 1985 und 1996. The number of publications in 1996 is 166, which constitutes 0.14% of the total number of publications in the world. Three fourths of the publications were of full-text articles. An overwhelming majority of the contributions (95%) were written in English. Most contributions (93%) came from researchers working at universities. Researchers affiliated with Middle East Technical, Bosporus and Bilkent Universities made more than half(%53) of all social science publications.
