Abstract
The effect of irradiation temperature on radiation induced degradation of poly(ethyl methacrylate) sample with a most probable distribution has been investigated. Chain scission yields, G(S), have been determined in the temperature interval of 0-140°C. The activation energy of chain scission was calculated to be 10.41 ± 2.03 kJ/mol. No change in this value was observed when the glass transition temperature of 72°C was overcrossed. Low G(S) values determined at 120 and 140°C were explained to be due to unzipping reactions accompanying the main chain scissions.
