Abstract
Shoulder surgery has undergone a paradigm shift over the past 20 to 30 years. The introduction, development, and refinement of arthroscopic instrumentation and surgical techniques have prompted many surgeons to transition away from open procedures in favor of arthroscopic techniques. As the popularity of arthroscopic surgery has increased, proponents of these techniques have cited its numerous advantages over open surgery, including lower complication rates. 1 However, complications are ubiquitous in surgery of any kind, and this is true of arthroscopic shoulder surgery as well.
