Leadership and two-state solution: An interview with Mr. Ersin Tatar, President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, presented at the informal 5+UN meeting, was in fact in response to the UN Secretaries-General's calls for the two sides to "think outside the box" and that "this time must be different," and aimed to break the deadlock in decades-long nego-tiations conducted on the same basis and modalities. The proposal's essence is to secure the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' inherent sovereign equality and equal international status, thereby creating a new foundation for the parties to enter into formal negotiations to establish a freely negotiated and mutually acceptable cooperative relationship. This chapter brings direct perspective from President of TRNC Ersin Tatar on role of leadership and two-state solution.
