Abstract

The social integration of Turkish immigrants, the largest immigrant group in Germany, is one of the important issues in sociology and politics lately. Acculturation is one of the most important dimensions of social integration. In this study we investigated the social integration of Turkish immigrants in Germany, and the aim of the study was to investigate intergenerational differences in the level of accepting German culture and maintaining Turkish culture, and the factors that affected these differences. The results of the study indicated that there is a significant intergenerational difference in the level of accepting German culture and maintaining Turkish culture. The results of the hierarchical regression analysis, which included demographic variables and the dimensions of social integration like identity, interaction and placement, showed that there was a significant and negative relation between generations and the maintenance of ethnic culture and that there was a significant and positive relation between generations and accepting German culture. Furthermore, interviews showed that the politics of migration and integration in Germany affected acculturation in addition to generation difference.
