Abstract
The interaction of sodium silicate with boric acid or boron trioxide at xNa2O yB2O3 zSiO2 mole ratios of 1.0 0.5 3.44 and 1.0 1.0 3.44 in a planetary ball mill activator were investigated by x-ray diffraction, infrared analyses and physical-chemical tests. By the use of high-energy milling, the solid mixes turn into fully xray amorphous state and lightweight boron containing silicates with varying chemical compositions were obtained.
