Abstract

Adaptation of the IRI-Plas model to the experimental values of the critical frequency f0F2 and the total electron content TEC of the ionosphere makes it possible to specify the distribution of electron concentration in the upper ionosphere. Using the data from the mid-latitude station Alma-Ata as an example, it was shown that such an adaptation can lead to the disappearance of the winter anomaly in the upper ionosphere, namely, the effect of the winter anomaly exists at heights of the upper ionosphere in the original IRI-Plas model but disappears when the model is adapted to the experimental values of f0F2 and TEC irrespective of the ratio between the model and experimental f0F2. But it should be noted that the IRI-Plas model with the observable TEC and f0F2 overestimates the electron density at heights above 600 km.
