Abstract
Addressing the centuries as the voice of the collective memory, Dede Korkut is a literary work that transmits and reflects cultural codes of Turkish social life. As the management system of a society is significant for social life organisation. The view that the management system is sacred, the effects of former administrative mentality and the perceived importance of statecraft caused these stories to have symbolic administrative meanings. The statecraft was thought to be a multi-layered system that include many aspects like food and beverage as well as clothing and apparel. Administrators, their relations and kinship connections were also considered important for the survival of the state administration. The sons of the administrators used to be called "devletlü" (son of the state, literally or "great and wealthy person" with an extended meaning). The prayers for the state at the end of each story and the vows for loyalty to the authority of the state reveal the idea that the state was deemed to rise on strong foundations. So, the individual reader experiences a heroic journey setting out from the status of "devletlü" to that of "erenlik" (being a saint) within the social teachings of the management system, which forms the contents of this article.
