Abstract
Cephalosporins, derived from the 7-aminocephalosporanic acid nucleus, are β- lactam antibiotics. Addition of substituent to this acidic nucleus provide to create new products having lower toxicity and higher efficiency. The cephalosporins have been classified into four group according to their antimicrobial spectrum. In general, progression from first to fourth generation is associated with a broadening of the Gram (-) antibacterial spectrum, some reduction in activity against Gram (+) organisms. In this review, the analysis of the seven cephalosporins, belong to third and fourth generations (Cefepime, Ceftazidime, Ceftizoxime, Ceftriaxone, Cefotaxime, Cefixime and Cefoperazon) currently on the market in Turkey, in biological material originated from human with HPLC in the last decade have been investigated. The investigation has been done according to mobile phase, stationary phase, detector, sample preparation technique, recovery, limit of detection and limit of quantitation of the methods.
