Abstract

Old Uyghur has an important place for philologists as a period in the historical course of the Turkic language that contains various works of Manichaean and Buddhist teachings. Old Uygur continues to survive in today's Turkic languages and dialects, with various feature, eighter as it is or with some changes, in other modern Turkic languagesi especially Yellow Uyghur. The Chagatai Khanate was founded in 1227 by Chagatai, the son of Chingiz Khan. Chagatai lost its existence as an official language with the soviet domination. It continues to exist in today's Uyghur and Uzbek languages. In this study, the traces of the calligrafical, phonetical and morphological similarities of Old Uygur in Chagatai will be traced. According to the statements of ahmet Vefik Pasha and Semsettin Sami, Chagatai was built on Old Uyghur. Based on the definitions such as Turkish, Chagatai, Uygur and Uygur expressed by both authors, many commonalities and differences regarding the relevant periods will be shown in the study, the theorical basis of which is formed.
