Innovative Food Applications through Novel and Sustainable Extraction of Solid Wastes from Essential Oil Industry

  • Middle East Technical University

Project: ResearchTUBITAK

Project Details

Description

FINE WASTEES aims to valorize lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and melissa (Melissa officinalis) residues by transforming them into high-value functional ingredients for the food industry. These underutilized residues, generated during essential oil production, present a significant opportunity for sustainable waste management. The project focuses on the extraction of bioactive phenolic compounds and pectic polysaccharides using innovative vacuum microwave-assisted extraction (VMAE) and vacuum microwave enzyme-assisted extraction (VMEE) techniques.
